BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's tennis team tried to avenge a loss from last fall when they hosted Bluefield State College on Sunday morning. Despite the Tornado taking four singles matches, the Rams took the narrow 5-4 victory.
Bluefield State opened the match by taking all three doubles matches. It wasn't easy however, as King's No. 3 doubles team of Moritz Poswiat and Seth Carelli nearly pulled off a victory, falling to Connor Pickering and Aziz Yuldashev 9-8 (7-5).
The Tornado (4-6) awoke in singles play as Luis Delgado got King on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Piotr Kruk at No. 3 singles. At the fourth flight, Leo Brigato followed with a 6-1, 5-1 win as his opponent retired. Poswiat took a 6-1, 6-3 win over Vlad Catlan at No. 5 singles before Rodrigo Avila came from behind to defeated Yuldashev 2-6, 6-0, 10-5. Nevertheless, Bluefield state took wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles to clinch the 5-4 victory.
King will be in action again on Friday when they travel to take on UNC Asheville. The dual match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
