SUMTER, S.C. – The King University men's tennis team faced tough challenges at the ITA Southeast Regional over the weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center. Rodrigo Avila turned in a solid performance as he reached the quarterfinals in the singles B Draw.
Avila started his weekend with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Alex Reinauer of the University of North Georgia. He followed that with another three set win, topping Limestone College's Stefano Soares 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. In the third round he bested Benedikt Wilde of Columbus State University 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. However, he fell to Francis Marion University's Marius Wahlier 6-2, 6-3 to end his weekend. William Boyce also competed in the B Draw, but he dropped both of his matches.
In the A Draw, Pablo Vidal won his first match against Lander University's Diego Zegarra 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, but dropped his second round match to Pablo Gor-Costales of Armstrong Atlantic State University 6-0, 6-3. Leo Brigato won his first round match in the A Draw due to an injury, but dropped his next two matches, ending his weekend.
King will travel to play their first dual match of the season on Friday as they take on Bluefield State College. The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
