Tornado top Belmont Abbey in final home match
BRISTOL, Tenn. – In their final home duel match of the season, the King University men's tennis team evened their conference record at 5-5. The Tornado defeated Belmont Abbey College 7-2 in the Conference Carolinas regular season finale.
The Tornado (11-8, 5-5 CC) set the tone early, taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Rodrigo Avila and Pablo Vidal narrowly defeated Conner McMann and Tom Wigley 9-8 (7-4) at No. 1 doubles, and Leo Brigato and Patrick Jones topped Michael Van Dusen and Gabriel Trombini 8-4.
At No. 2 singles, Vidal topped Wigley 6-0, 6-0 while Avila bested McMann 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Brigato clinched the win for the Tornado defeating Van Dusen 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Playing his final match at home, Jones earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Rodrigo Alatre at No. 4 singles. At No. 6 singles, William Boyce defeated Idris Moya 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 to give King the 7-2 win over Belmont Abbey (3-15, 2-8 CC).
The Tornado will travel to Tusculum College for their final tune up before the Conference Carolinas tournament next weekend. The duel match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
