Tornado sweeps Bluefield in non-conference tilt
BLUEFIELD, Va. – The King University men's tennis team returned to action on Friday at Bluefield College. The Tornado came away with a 9-0 win to push their record to 7-4.
Rodrigo Avila defeated Lochlan Kitchen 6-2, 6-2 at No. one singles while Pablo Vidal won by the same margin at No. 2 singles over Jordan Owens of Bluefield (0-4). Leo Brigato took a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Patrick Jones (No. 4 singles) and Rafael Francisco (No. 5 singles) each won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-1. William Boyce rounded out King's squad with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, the Tornado (7-4) pair of Avila and Vidal took an 8-4 win at No. 1 while Jones and Brigato won their No. 2 doubles match 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, Boyce and Fancisco took an 8-2 victory to complete the sweep.
King returns to Conference Carolinas action tomorrow when the play at Mount Olive College. The dual match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
