MARS HILL, N.C. - King College swept a pair of matches against Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University as both were 5-0 results Saturday as a part of the Mars Hill (N.C.) College Fall Invitational.
King and Lenoir-Rhyne will meet again Friday, this time in Hickory, N.C. The matches are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Before hand though King travels to nearby Milligan (Tenn.) College to play at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Both the Lady Tornado and Tornado will take 3-0 records into the week's action.
Jose Avila (Cuernavaca, Mexico) won his No. 1 singles' point 6-2 and 6-3. Patrick Jones (Bluff City, Tenn.) and Chris Harvey (Columbia, S.C.) only lost three sets between them in singles' action. Nick Smith (Kingsport, Tenn.) also picked up a 7-6 (3) and 6-1 victory. Seth Hale (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Eiki Magnusson (Reykjavik, Iceland) teamed up for a 6-2 and 6-3 doubles' win.
The women played five singles' contests and at the top of the lineup was No. 1 Virginie Brioschi (Geneva, Switzerland) with a 6-1 and 6-4 decision. Sarah Anderson (Bristol, Tenn.) was a 7-5 and 6-4 winner. Crystal Harwell (Nashville, Tenn.) did not lose a set in No. 3 play. Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) and Eden Sherrod (Kingston, Tenn.) won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles', respectively.
