Avila scores victory at UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - King College saw Jose Avila win the lone point for the Tornado tennis team in Thursday's 6-1 defeat at NCAA Division I foe UNC Asheville.

Avila, a freshman from Cuernavaca, Mexico, knocked off Nicolai Nonnenbroich 6-1 and 6-3 in the No. 2 singles' contest.

The match started with the six singles' contests outside before rain sent play indoors. After singles' the doubles' matches were contested where the teams played for the final point of the day.

Pablo Vidal (Madrid, Spain) took his No. 4 singles' contest with Jonas Brobeck to three sets, 3-6, 6-1 and 6-2.

King welcomes Covenant (Ga.) College to Bristol for an 11 a.m. contest Saturday. The Tornado won a 6-3 contest a season ago in Chattanooga against Covenant's men.
