MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – King Swimming & Diving spent their Saturday afternoon in Mount Berry, Ga. where host Berry College hosted a double dual meet with LaGrange College serving as the third school in attendance. Of the four decisions to be had, King earned three wins witnessing both sides sweeping LaGrange and the Lady Tornado defeating the Vikings.
Of the 24 events held at The Cage, King earned five event victories, all on the women's side. Kelsey Wiese (Gallatin, Tenn.) set a new King College record in the 50-meter freestyle clocking in a 25.21 time and earning a victory in the event. Kelsey Copeland (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) helped the Lady Tornado go 1-2 in the event.
Wiese earned a second victory in the 100 backstroke, defeating the next nearest opponent by five seconds with a 1:02.05 time and missing the pool record by four one-hundredths of a second.
Freshman Samantha Norman (Roanoke, Va.) earned a win in the 200 IM, turning in a 2:21.92 time in the event. Rachel Fuller (North Augusta, S.C.) was the final individual victory for King, winning the 500 freestyle with a 5:38.09 and coupling with Malorie McBride for first and second place in the event.
The women's 200 medley relay team took first place with a 1:59.82 time. The relay team consisted of Kelsey Wiese, Sara Hennie, Rachel Fuller, and Samantha Norman.
The women's team defeated both LaGrange College (70.00-24.00) and host Berry College (57.00-41.00) for their first two wins of the season (2-2). The men's team defeated LaGrange College by a 59.00-24.00 count but was beaten by Berry, 81.00-12.00.
Both teams will head to Spartanburg, S.C. to participate in the Conference Carolinas Meet, hosted by Converse College on Oct. 19. They will turn around and swim at home (Tennessee High School) the next day, Oct. 20, against Mars Hill College and Milligan College.
