Records fall in season opener for King Swimming

MARS HILL, N.C. - King College opened the 2010-11 swimming season Saturday with a pair of school records from a freshman duo at the meet hosted by Mars Hill (N.C.) College.

Alek Nochowicz (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) needed 11 minutes and 12.33 seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle event to lower the school record by 14 seconds.

Blake Rutherford (Picayune, Miss.) was three seconds faster than the previous King record in the 200 butterfly thanks to his time of 2:16.21.

King lost to Mars Hill in the men's and women's team standings, but the Lady Tornado was able to defeat Brenau (Ga.) University who also swam. The Tornado scored 56 points compared to 185 for Mars Hill in the men's results. The Lady Tornado was overtaken 178-67 by Mars Hill.

Next on the schedule for King will be a meet at Pfeiffer (N.C.) University on Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. along with Milligan (Tenn.) College.
