BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Conference Carolinas Men's and Women's Soccer Championships get underway this week, and the league office has announced their academic all-conference honorees. The Tornado 13 total student-athletes recognized, five men and eight women.
On the men's side, Luis Calderon leads the way. Last week, Calderon was selected CoSIDA Academic All-District as he carries 3.63 GPA. On the pitch, he has accounted for four goals and four assists. Ben Allan carries a 3.51 GPA and has been a key member of the Tornado defense this season. Chris Hicks carries a 3.94 GPA and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. He has tallied one goal and one assist this season.
The final two Tornado that earned recognition are goalkeepers Kari Sveinsson and Jake Davis. Sveinsson carries a 3.50 GPA while Davis has a 3.53 GPA. Sveinsson has played in 15 matches, making 14 starts for the Tornado.
On the women's side, defenders Lindsay Curtis, Bailey Torrez and Tara Dakers 3.59 lead the way. Curtis has a GPA of 3.96 and has handed out four assists on the season while Torrez has a 3.80 GPA and has appeared in 17 matches. Dakers made 12 appearances, 10 starts prior to an injury ended her season. She has handed out one assist this year and has a GPA of 3.59.
Also on the defensive side of the ball, Olivia Drake and Erin Jennings, earn academic all-conference. Drake, a goalkeeper has a GPA of 3.98 and has made three starts in four appearances this year. Jennings carries a 3.89 GPA and has made 13 appearances on the year.
The midfield and offensive trio of Reagan Dempsey, Kara Garrett and Catherine Walsh round out the group for the Tornado. Dempsey has made 14 starts in 17 appearances and she has handed out three assists on the year and carries a 3.41 GPA. Garrett leads the Tornado with nine goals on the season and she has a GPA of 3.72. Walsh played in three contests before having her season cut short due to injury. In that time she scored one goal and has a GPA of 3.45.
Conference Carolinas academic all-conference teams are comprised of junior and senior student-athletes who have competed in a conference-sponsored sport and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all work completed at their member institution.
