BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the third straight year, the King University men's soccer team has a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. Luis Calderon earns the distinction for the first time in his career this season, earning first team All-District 3.
Calderon has had a solid season on the pitch for the Tornado, and off the field he carries a 3.63 GPA while majoring in psychology and mathematics. Along with his stellar GPA, the junior has also been named to the King University Dean's List.
On the field, the Guatemala City, Guatemala native has been equally impressive in the midfield for the Tornado. So far this year, Calderon ranks 11th in Conference Carolinas with four assists on the year. He has also added four goals for the Tornado offense. He posted the game-winning goal in the 65th minute of a 1-0 win at the University of North Georgia and later recorded his first career multi-goal game. Against the University of Mount Olive, Calderon netted a pair of goals, the first in the 31st minute, and the second giving King a 3-2 lead in the 75th minute.
This marks the first time Calderon has been selected College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) All- District. Each of the last two years, Chris Hicks earned the distinction for the Tornado men's soccer team.
Calderon was one of three student-athletes from Conference Carolinas that were named CoSIDA Academic All-District. Joining him were Nestor Aguilar and Gui Machado of Limestone College.
He is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America which will be announced on November 21.
