King Men’s Soccer Goes the Distance in Nil-Nil Draw

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Through 110:00 of play, neither the King Tornado or the Lincoln Memorial Raildiggers scored a single goal en route to a double overtime, 0-0 tie Wednesday afternoon. Fifty total shots were taken between the two teams but neither put one in the back of the net as King left Harrogate, Tenn. with a 0-1-1 record following the draw.

Sam Nichol (Midlothians, Scotland) and Joe Mayer (Essex, England) led the Tornado both recording five total shots and three on goal. Goaltender Patrick Milfeld (Dallas, Texas) made seven saves through 107:00 before receiving a red card. Freshman Stefan Kwiatkowski (Ocala, Flor.) made his only save at a crucial point of the game on a penalty kick stemming from Milfeld's red card, keeping the game level.

The Tornado put 12 shots on goal, testing LMU goaltender Michael Watkins, who answered the call each of the 11 times he was challenged. Lincoln Memorial also made one team save. Seven of the Tornado's shots were put between the posts in the second half alone. Between the two overtime sessions, each team only had one shot on goal. Five shots were taken between the two squads in each of the ten-minute overtime sessions.

King will look for its first win of the season in the team's next action on Saturday, Sept. 10 against Limestone in the nightcap of a men's/women's soccer doubleheader. Both squads will play the Saints at Parks Field (Bristol, Tenn.) with the Lady Tornado (1-1) beginning the action at 1:00 p.m. The men will follow and begin play at 4:00 p.m.
