King, Numpituckchaikul take 5th at rain-shortened CC Championships
BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – With rain falling in Greensboro area, the final round of the Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championships has been cancelled, meaning the second round scores are final. The Tornado finished the tournament in fifth with a stroke total of 597, and were led by Leennawat Numpituckchaikul who also took fifth.
Numpituckchaikul closed the tournament with a second round score of two-under, 70, matching his best round of the season to move up the leaderboard into fifth place. The sophomore finished with a stroke total of 144, only two strokes behind the winner, Nicolas Fonseca of Barton College who won a tiebreaker. For Numpituckchaikul, the finish is his third top-10 of the season, and it marks the first time he cracked the top five.
He was joined in the top-10 by Mathias Bunaes who carded a second round of one-under, 71 to finish with a stroke total of 147. Bunaes ended up in ninth place, taking his second top-10 finish of the season. Ross Maietta followed with consistent scores of 76 to finish with a total of 152. Taylor Gouge capped his week with a second round of even-par 72, finish the championship with a stroke total of 154. Cody Boyer rounded out the team with a total of 164 in the two day tournament.
King finished fifth in the tournament with a total score of 597 after shooting 289 in the second round. Erskine College won the championship at 282 with Limestone College not far behind at 584.
