CONOVER, N.C. – With the fall season winding down, the King University men's golf team shot a 308 in the first round of the Rock Barn Intercollegiate, putting them in sixth place. Leennawat Numpituckchaikul and Cody Boyer paced the Tornado, each carding 75.
Numpituckchaikul turned in a consistent performance, shooting 38 on the back nine, and following it with a 37 on the back nine. Boyer shot a 35 on the front nine, but followed it with a 40 on the back nine to end with a 75 on the day.
Ross Maietta followed his front nine 41 with a back nine of 37 for a total of 78 while Ryan Hyatt shot 37-43, finishing with an 80 in the first round. Mathias Buanes rounded out the team with an 83, bettering his front nine score of 44 with a 39 on the back nine.
Queens University (N.C.) leads the tournament after shooting 295 in the first round. USC Aiken and Queens B are tied for second at 300 while Wingate University is in fourth at 304. North Greenville University is fifth at 305 while the Tornado are in sixth after shooting 308.
The tournament concludes with the second round tomorrow at Rock Barn Golf Course in Conover, N.C.
