Tornado shoot 293 in KU Invite first round

BRISTOL, Tenn. – After a couple weeks off, the King University men's golf team started their home tournament, the King University Invitational, with a team score of 293. The Tornado are in fifth place after the first of two rounds, and were led by Cody Boyer's 72.

Boyer followed a two-over 37 on the front nine with an even-par 35 on the back nine to come in with a two-over 72 to lead the Tornado. The freshman is currently in seventh place after the first of two rounds. Mathias Buanes and Ross Maietta weren't far behind Boyer as the duo each carded first round scores of 73.

Leennawat Numpituckchaikul came in next with a 75, and John Scott rounded out the squad with a 77.

The Tornado have two teams playing in the tournament, and Taylor Gouge led the second team with a 74 in the first. Drew Takacs and Jake Stone followed with scores of 75 and 76, respectively. Michael Chua and Sam Hobday rounded out the team with scores of 78 and 83, respectively.

Mars Hill University leads the two-round tournament with a team score of even-par 280. Erskine College is second at 286 while Barton College and Limestone College are far behind at 290 and 291, respectively. The Tornado sit in fifth place at 283.

The tournament wraps up tomorrow at the Bristol Country Club, with tee times starting at 9:15 a.m.
