King leads Barton Intercollegiate after first round

WILSON, N.C. – Through one round of the Barton Intercollegiate at Wilson Country Club, the King University men's golf teams holds the lead in a field of 14 teams. The Tornado were led by Ross Maietta and Taylor Gouge who both shot one-under 71's, while the team posted a 289.

Maietta carded an even-par 36 on the front nine before posting a one-under 35 on the back nine while Gouge shot one-under 35 on the front nine and even-par 36 on the back nine. The duo is tied for third in the field of 80 golfers. Richard Powell is the third King golfer in the top-10 as he is in a tie for seventh. After shooting a 40 on the front nine, Powell rebounded to card a three-under 33 on the back nine for a total of 73.

Leennawat Numpituckchaikul and John Scott rounded out King's team. Numpituckchaikul shot a two-over 74 and is tied for 11th while Scott is tied for 30th after posting a 77.

King's score of 289 gives them a five shot lead over Erskine who shot 294 in the first round. North Greenville University and Barton College followed with scores of 299 and 300, respectively.

The tournament will conclude with the final round tomorrow at Wilson Country Club. Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.
