Powell Leads King to Third After Day One at Pinehurst Challenge

 

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Junior Richard Powell ended with a top-5 finish while helping King College to a third place overall finish after the first round of action at the Pinehurst Challenge. Round two will begin Tuesday morning from National Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C.

King (301) currently sits in third place just five strokes off the pace of leader Lincoln Memorial (296). As a team, the Tornado shot 13-over at the par 72, 7,122-yard course at National Golf Club. Host Wingate University finished in second just three shots ahead of King.

Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) led the Tornado with a one-over, 73 (35-38) in his first round of play. His score of 35 on the front nine was the third-best score on through the stretch. Senior Adrian Kibsey (Winnipeg, Manitoba) finished one stroke behind his teammate with a first round 74 (37-37). Kibsey is currently tied for seventh overall. Freshman John Scott (Glasgow, Scotland) shot a 39-36-75 in round one while Lee Whitehead posted a 79 (38-41).

King will conclude the two-day stay in Pinehurst, N.C. on Tuesday morning.
