Golf Finishes Tour at Myrtle Beach Invitational
Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Ontario) and Adrian Kibsey (Winnipeg, Manitoba) both improved their second-day scores to lead the team. Bamberger showed a two-stroke improvement (73) for a two-day score of 148 (75-73—148) and a t-23th place finish overall. Kibsey (78-72—150) finished just two strokes off his teammate's lead, but had the largest improvement of any player participating in the tournament. He finished six strokes better than he had on Monday, Oct. 3, ending with a team-best 72 on Tuesday.
Lee Whitehead (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) did not replicate their superb first-day 73 scores and fell shot an 80 and 81, respectively, in their second day play. Whitehead earned a top-50 finish with a two-day total of 153 (73-80—153). Ross Maietta (Bexley, England) improved by three strokes from his Monday score card, shooting the third-best round of the Tornado team.
The Tornado finished ninth in a 13-team field, totaling a 603 tournament total.
The Lady Tornado put together a 13th place finish, falling two places from their first round finish. The team shot a 680 as a team for the tournament. King finished ahead of Conference Carolinas members Pfeiffer (689), Coker (698), Limestone (719) and St. Andrews (851).
Anna Walker (Marion, Va.) shot the best second round of her team with an 82, a two-stroke improvement from her first round (84-82—166). Walker finished the tournament with a t-32ndoverall placement after tournament's end.
Finishing one stroke ahead of Walker's tournament score was freshman Cortnee Young (Cleveland, Tenn.), who shot an 83 on Tuesday and a 165 (82-83) two-day score. Esther Gandarias (Madrid, Spain) fell three back of her first day pace (82-85—167) with Kerby Jones (89-93—182) and Chelsea Gammon (96-108—204) rounding out the Lady Tornado pack.
Tornado Golf will bring their talents back to Bristol, Tenn. and host their next meet, the King College Intercollegiate Invitational, on Oct. 10-11 at the Bristol Country Club for a two-day tournament.
