BRISTOL, Tenn. – Senior men's golfer Adrian Kibsey earned his spot to compete for the Canadian Amateur national title with his performance in last weekend's qualifier match at Niakwa Country Club in Winnipeg. He is set to compete in a field of 240 men in the 107th Canadian Men's Amateur Championship.
Kibsey finished with a 3-under par 68 scorecard to top the leaderboards at Niakwa Country Club to earn one of seven spots to compete in this weekend's championship tournament. Sixty golfers took to the links in Winnipeg for the chance to compete in the Amateur Championship.
"I didn't come out here today with a number in mind," said Kibsey. "I thought under-par would be a good number and I'd be happy with that, but as I kept going on, I was trying to do better – to win the qualifier as opposed to just qualify."
Kibsey will join 240 golfers this weekend for the tournament, set to begin Thursday morning and hosted between Niakwa Country Club and Elmhurst Country Club. The first cut will be made Friday after the field plays 36 holes and reduced to 70 players. The third and fourth rounds will be played exclusively at Niakwa Country Club and the championship round to be played on Sunday.
