King fires better final round at Rendleman

SALISBURY, N.C. - The King College men's golf team closed out the 2011 Rendleman Invitational Tuesday with a final-round 316 to shave five shots off Monday's opening round.

Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Canada) lowered his final-round score to a 75 to lead King Tuesday. Tyler Welch (White House, Tenn.) carded a 78, nine shots better than Monday. Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) gave King an 81 while Nick Carden (Hixson, Tenn.) finished with an 82.

King's 316 Tuesday was 15th and helped the Tornado to finish in a tie for 15th at the event. The Tornado and North Greenville (S.C.) University both finished with two-day totals of 637. King passed Mars Hill (N.C.) College with their 337 in the final round.

UNC Pembroke beat Belmont Abbey (N.C.) College by six shots, 581-587, in the team standings. UNC Pembroke once again had the low team score with a 289 Tuesday.

The individual medalist honors went to UNC Pembroke's Jordan Walor in a one-hole playoff. He defeated Carson-Newman (Tenn.) College's Gavin Hay as both finished at 139.

The golfers played the Country Club of Salisbury that played as a Par-71 at 6,665 yards.

King returns to action March 12-13 at the Tusculum Invitational in Greeneville, Tenn.
