PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - King College posted a team score of 311 in the only round of the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate at the Hombre Golf Club Tuesday to finish fourth in the team standings.
King got a three-over-par 75 from Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Canada) to lead the squad as he was tied for third.. Richard Powell (Hixson, Tenn.) was next with a 76 in a tie for eighth. Adrian Kibsey (Winnipeg, Canada) carded a 77 to place 13th with an 83 from Tyler Welsh.
The Tornado finished a shot behind Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University as Flagler (Fla.) College won the team championship with a 307. Flagler came into the event No. 35 in the Golf Coaches Association of America rankings. Central Alabama Community College was second with a 308. King was able to beat No. 7 Columbus State (Ga.) and No. 21 Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.) by a shot. No. 33 St. Edward's (Texas) finished seventh with a 316.
All the golfers had to face the course with 15 mph winds on a wet course that saw the first round scheduled for Monday rained out.
King will play at the St. Andrews Spring Invitational on Feb. 21-22 in Pinehurst, N.C. at the Woodlake Resorts.
