Justin Newring '16, '17

Justin Newring returned to his alma mater in July 2024 as an Assistant Track & Field Coach after building a successful coaching career at the collegiate level.

Prior to returning to King University, Newring spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the men's and women's track & field programs at Lindsey Wilson College. During his tenure, he played a key role in the development of sprinters and jumpers, helping athletes establish six school records while producing multiple Mid-South Conference champions. His athletes recorded more than 20 NAIA National Championship qualifying marks, earned 14 top-three finishes at the Mid-South Conference Championships, and included a two-time NAIA All-American in the heptathlon.

Newring's return to King marks his second coaching stint with the Tornado. Following the completion of his undergraduate degree in 2016, he served as a graduate assistant coach while pursuing his master's degree. During that time, he helped coach Vincent Okot, a two-time All-American and one of the most accomplished athletes in program history.

As a student-athlete, Newring established himself as one of the premier sprinters in King track & field history. He earned 14 USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region honors, was a nine-time First Team All-Conference Carolinas selection, and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships five times during his career.

Newring's name remains throughout the King record books as he continues to hold school records in the indoor and outdoor 200-meter and 400-meter events, as well as the 4x400-meter relay. His accomplishments helped set a standard of excellence for the program and solidified his place among the most decorated student-athletes in school history.

With experience as both a standout student-athlete and successful collegiate coach, Newring brings extensive knowledge in sprint development, jumps, and championship-level competition to the Tornado coaching staff.

Newring earned his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from King University in 2016 and completed his master's degree from King in 2017.
