Mark Bell is a veteran collegiate soccer coach with 25 years of head coaching experience. He joined the King University Tornado men’s soccer staff on March 1, 2022, bringing a proven track record of program building and championship success.
Recent Seasons as Head Coach
- In his first season (2022), Bell led the Tornado to a 2–11–2 overall record (1–9–1 in Conference Carolinas play). King earned its first win under Bell in his third game, a 2–0 home victory over Emory & Henry College on September 3, 2022. Joshua Bessinger, Riley Moore, and Marcell Szekeres earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
- Bell has guided the program to steady improvement, achieving 5 wins in a recent season and qualifying for the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
- During his tenure at King, Tornado players have earned 3 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections and 5 Academic All-Conference Carolinas honors.
Pre-King Coaching Experience
Bell spent six seasons as head coach at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts. In 2021, he led the Lions to the program’s first-ever New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) regular season championship. In 2019, Eastern Nazarene posted a 16–4 record, captured the NECC postseason championship, earned a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship, and Bell was named NECC Coach of the Year. In his final two full seasons there, the Lions totaled 29 wins.
Prior to Eastern Nazarene, Bell spent 19 seasons as head coach at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He amassed 180 wins with a .560 winning percentage, led the program to 13 winning seasons and five Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) championships, and was named WHAC Coach of the Year five times.
Education and Personal
Bell earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Illinois-Chicago and his Master of Education in Athletic Administration from Endicott College. He holds National and Advanced coaching diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches Association.
Bell’s wife, Dr. Catherine Mueller-Bell, is a Professor of Counseling and a Missionary of Counselor Education. They have two adult sons, Zachariah (who lives in Australia) and Joshua (who lives in California).
Bell brings extensive experience in player development, tactical acumen, and building competitive soccer programs to King University.
