Conference Carolinas Release

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Basketball season is right around the corner as practice starts today, and King University men's basketball team was selected first in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Tornado received four first place votes to edge out Limestone College and Barton College for the top spot.

The Tornado finished third in the standings a season ago with a league mark of 14-6, but they were only one game out of first place. King only lost two players from a team that posted an overall record of 19-8 last season. However, head coach George Pitts will have to replace two all-conference players from last season, Eddie Piccinini and Jason Seymore.

This season, a trio of seniors will lead King: Michael Fortune, Brandon Crompton and Scottie Hendricks. Also returning for Pitts this season is junior Logan Lyle who was an all-conference performer a last year. Lyle led the Tornado with an average of 14.3 points per game, and also ranked seventh in Conference Carolinas with a three-point field goal percentage of 41.6 a season ago.

"Conference Carolinas is one of the best leagues in NCAA Division II basketball, and anyone is capable of winning the league," commented Pitts. "Hopefully we can finish at the end of the year where we are picked now. However, that will be extremely difficulty considering the depth of our league and the quality of play that you see every night in Conference Carolinas."

King opens the season with a trio of home games in November. Their season opener is November 10 when they host UVa-Wise at 3:00 p.m. in the Student Center Complex. The Tornado then host Mars Hill University on November 13, before taking on the #13 team in the preseason rankings, Lincoln Memorial University on November 16. This season, King will face four teams that are ranked in the preseason top-25, including two in the top-5.
