No. 1 Tornado to Host Coker in Tournament Opener
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Top-seeded, Regular Season Champion King College will host the Coker Cobras (No. 4 East) on Tuesday night at the Student Center Complex for round one of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Tipoff for the quarterfinal matchup is set for 7:00 p.m.
King (22-6, 14-2), the top seed in the West Division, will host the Coker Cobras (14-12, 8-8) who finished the year ranked fourth in the East Division. The Cobras have won their last six games down the stretch, including victories over Queens (N.C.) and Pfeiffer in their final two regular season contests.
Admission for the game is $5.00. King students, faculty, and staff can attend the game free of charge with a valid King ID. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
King is led by veteran guards Eddie Piccinini (Orlando, Fla.) and Brian Hewitt (Lexington, Ky.) who combined, average 32.5 points per game. Hewitt leads the team inside the top-30 in three-point field-goal percentage, three-point field goals per game, and steals per game. Lio Gedeon (Marsh Harbor, Bahamas) leads the team in boards per game (7.6) and has delivered some impressive displays on the glass this year, while freshman Logan Lyle has emerged into a regular starter behind some hot three-point shooting that has him ranked 34th in three-point field goal percentage and 35th in three-point field goals per game. The Tornado are 11-1 overall and 8-0 versus league opponents at home, this season.
The Tornado defeated the Cobras on Jan. 14 by a final score of 70-66, overcoming a 15-point halftime deficit to earn the victory. Brian Hewitt (Lexington, Ky.) led King in that game with 34 points on 11-for-21 shooting, taking over with 27 second-half points and grabbing eight boards.
