Rankings are Out! King Ranked Second in Southeast Region

 

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The first set of regional rankings have been released by the NCAA for Division II men's basketball. The King Tornado have been placed second in the Southeast Region in the first set of rankings of the season.

King (21-5, 13-1) has been tabbed second in the Southeast Region, behind only nationally-ranked Lincoln Memorial University (No. 8).

The Tornado are also in the latest NCAA Division II top-25 poll, receiving six votes in the Coaches' Poll. King was ranked No. 25 in the NABC/NCAA DII Coaches' Poll, released on Jan. 31 and continues to be mentioned with the top Division II teams in country.

Statistically, King stands atop all Division II teams in three-point field goals per game (11.4) and are 33rd in the country in three-point field goal percentage (.384). The Tornado are 15th in the country in free throw percentage (.756), 17th in assist-turnover ratio (1.22), 11th in fewest turnovers per game (11.5), and 22nd in turnover margin (+3.5).

King has three players ranking inside the top-30 of three-point shooting percentage including Logan Lyle (17th, 45.1), Brian Hewitt (20, 44.9) and Michael Fortune (28, 43.8). Hewitt also is fourth in the country with an average of 3.5 three pointers per game.

Saturday, Feb. 18, will mark the Tornado's last road game of the season at Pfeiffer University before they conclude the regular season on Friday, Feb. 24, at home against Erskine College. King has solidified an opening-round home game in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
