Hewitt Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
The Lexington, Ky. native started all three games at the two-guard and shot the lights out of the gym, helping the Tornado go 3-0 last week on the road. Hewitt shot 50 percent from the field over a three-game span and shot .524 from distance. Thirty-three of his 48 points came via the three ball. Hewitt led the Tornado in scoring against UVA-Wise and served as the team's leading in rebounding against Carson-Newman (8). Two of King's three games were decided by double digits with the third decided by eight points in that stretch.
Hewitt scored 17 points against UVA-Wise (Nov. 15) and against Tusculum (Nov. 18), combining for an 11-for-19 (.579) shooting display over those two games. He hit seven of his 12 (.583) three-point attempts in those two games and collected six rebounds and eight assists, plus four steals. In the Tornado's rematch against Carson-Newman, Hewitt led the team with eight rebounds while scoring 14 points, hitting 4-of-9 (.444) three pointers in a 79-71 win over the Pioneers.
King enters the fall break 4-1 overall and heads into their third weekend of tournament play on the road. The Tornado will play No. 2 Mountain State (NAIA) and Bluefield State, Nov. 25-26 in Bluefield, West Virginia.
