The King College men's basketball coaching staff will host their annual coaching clinic on October 30, 2010. The clinic will be held on the King campus in the Student Center Complex.
The clinic will feature King men's head basketball coach George Pitts, King women's basketball coach Michele Williams, UVa-Wise head men's basketball coach Lee Clark, Sullivan East High head boys' basketball coach John Dyer, and Fulton High coach Jody Wright.
Pitts is in his fifth season at King after taking the Tornado to a fourth straight national tournament, three NAIA Division II and one NCCAA Division I runner-up run. During his time at King the Tornado has a 97-33 record. Prior to King he coached in eight TSSAA State Championship games, four at Science Hill and four more at Brentwood Academy, winning seven including four straight with Brentwood from 2003 to 2006. His state crowns at Science Hill were in 1990 and back-to-back in 1994-1995.
Williams is starting her fifth season at King as head coach and has a 72-56 record. She has coached 12 All-Conference players, two All-Americans and five Academic All-Americans. Williams has guided the Lady Tornado to three straight national tournaments, two NAIA Division II and one NCCAA Division I tournament. She also was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the 2006-07 season.
Clark is entering his 15th season at UVa-Wise and is coming off a 2010 AAC Tournament Championship run. His 178 wins at UVa-Wise is a program record and he owns the school record for wins in a season with 24.
Dyer has been at Sullivan East since 1988 after a tenure at Johnson County High. He is closing in on 400 wins in his career and has been named Northeast Tennessee Coach of the Year four times including last season. The 2010 Sullivan East squad went 29-5 with conference, district and region titles and earned a trip to the sub-state round.
Wright has coached at Fulton for 25 seasons and won district coach of the year honors 14 times. He's also an eight-time KIL Coach of the Year and East Tennessee Coach of the Year winner four times. Wright has led Fulton to the TSSAA State Tournament a dozen times with two state championships in 2008 and 2009. Fulton has added two state runner-up runs, 1996 and 1998. In his 25 seasons Wright has 18 20-win seasons, eight district and eight region championships.
