GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College's Mark Dockery was selected as NCCAA Men's Basketball Division I Student-Athlete of the Week by the national office.
Dockery, a senior forward from Nickelsville, Va., led King with a 25.0 points per game average last week in two games. He was 16-for-32 (50.0 percent) overall on the week from the field. Included was an 11-for-25 (44.0 percent) week from behind the arc. He went 7-for-8 (87.5 percent) at the free throw line.
He started the week with a career-high 30 points at NCAA Division I foe UNC Asheville on Thursday. Dockery had 23 points in the first half and ended the game 9-for-19 from the field with six 3-pointers. He pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and added an assist.
On Saturday at Bellarmine (Ky.) University, NCAA Division II's top-ranked team, Dockery had 20 points to lead all scorers. He finished 7-for-13 overall and 5-for-10 from behind the three-point line. Dockery filled up the stat sheet with an assist, block, steal and three rebounds.
This was the first time this season a Tornado player has won the weekly NCCAA honor.
King, at 6-8, will travel to Nova Southeastern (Fla.) for a game on Jan. 2.
