GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College used a win over a NCCAA Division I Top-5 team to move up to No. 8 in the final regular season NCCAA Men's Basketball Division I Burbridge Rating, released by the national office.
The Tornado's Burbridge of 7.077 was up from the 6.896 a week earlier that had the team at No. 10. The boost in the ranking was helped by a 72-63 win at then No. 3 Campbellsville (Ky.) University 72-63 last Wednesday. The No. 8 spot is the highest King has been since Dec. 12, the second Burbridge report which was also No. 8. King started the season with the No. 5 ranking in the opening ranking. In the last seven reports King has owned either No. 9 or No. 10.
King was one of six teams that moved places in the Top-10. The top two were the same with Indiana Wesleyan University at No. 1 and Dallas Baptist (Texas) University next. Indiana Wesleyan posted a 7.833 rating with a 7.565 mark from Dallas Baptist.
Oklahoma Wesleyan University leaped from No. 6 to No. 3 with Emmanuel (Ga.) College at No. 4 for a fourth-straight week. Campbellsville slipped two spots to No. 5. Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) University was bumped to No. 6, a spot lower than a week ago.
Cedarville (Ohio) University remained No. 7 with King next. Mid-America Christian (Okla.) University and Grace (Ind.) College were No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
The Mid-East region could only put King and Campbellsville in the Top-15. Bluefield (Va.) College was next in the region at No. 19 and Tennessee Temple University a spot behind. Victory (Tenn.) University was up one place at No. 26. Mid-Continent (Ky.) University, the defending region champion, landed at No. 29.
The rating is based on wins and losses, opponents' winning percentage, location of game and opponents' national affiliation.
King welcomes Hiwassee (Tenn.) College for a 7 p.m. game Wednesday. In the first meeting this season the Tornado blew away Hiwassee 100-46 on Feb. 1.
