GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College's Mark Dockery won the NCCAA Division I Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week award for a second straight week, the national office announced.
Dockery (Nickelsville, Va.) led King in both games of the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament last week as he put his name atop King's All-Time Scoring List with 1,826 points in his four-year career.
He started the week with a 20-point effort in the semifinal contest against Victory (Tenn.) University to take over the top spot on the scoring list. Dockery's 20 points led King in a 101-76 win to send the team to a second-straight region championship game. He also pulled in seven rebounds.
Saturday he led all scorers at No. 5 Campbellsville (Ky.) University with 23 points to send King back to the NCCAA Division I National Tournament for a second-straight season. To get to 23 points, he was 10-for-12 at the free throw line as the Tornado won a 70-59 decision.
In all he averaged 21.5 points per region tournament game with 5.5 rebounds per contest. Dockery hit six 3-pointers in the two contests and finished the week 15-for-18 at the free-throw line.
This was the fourth time Dockery has been the NCCAA Division I Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week this season.
The Tornado enters the NCCAA Division I National Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play Trinity Christian (Ill.) Thursday at 4 p.m. in Oakland City, Ind.
