BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University baseball player Cory Rhodes continues to garner postseason accolades. After being selected to the all-Conference Carolinas second team, the all-Conference Carolinas Tournament team, and as an academic all-conference performer, Rhodes was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team this afternoon.
Rhodes will graduate this weekend with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in King's mathematics program. He led Conference Carolinas and ranked sixth in NCAA Division II with 96 strikeouts in a conference-high 92 2/3 innings pitched this season and has spent each of the last four seasons as King's top starter. He led the team to consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament runner-up finishes and has totaled 26 wins in his four years at King with a career ERA of 3.64.
Rhodes joins softball player Cassie Ringstaff as the fourth and fifth Tornado student-athletes to be named Academic All-District since King's move to NCAA Division II membership in 2010, following baseball player Bryant Walker in 2012 and cross country and track and field athlete Hannah Witt in 2013. Volleyball player Kelsey Griffitts went on to be named First Team Academic All-America this fall after also earning Academic All-District distinction.
