King Cycling Opens at SECC Season Opener

Cleveland, Ga. – The King University Cycling team competed at the SECC Season Opener against a full field of conference teams. King was able to perform well on the first day, with a standout performance coming from Willy Gomez, finishing third overall in the Men's 2/3-Cross Country. Gomez was able to finish with a time of 1:15:19.23 with strong splits of 37:10.60 and 38:08.63.
 
Cayden Holmes came in sixth place in the Men's 2/3-Cross Country with a time of 1:16:50.45, out-sprinting the next two riders to the line.
 
Jayson Wallace led the way for the Tornado through the Men's P 1/2-Cross Country, placing 12^th with an overall time of 1:39:43.96 with almost perfectly even opening splits of 32:58.57 and 32:58.18. Cooper Ward was the second King athlete to finish in this category with a time of 1:44:09.55 and a 17th-place finish.
 
Colin Burgess led King's Men's Dual Slalom team, with a fourth-place finish. Noah Hornbeck was able to get into the top 25 as well with a 21^st-place finish in the Dual Slalom.
 
The top female finisher of the day was Kaitlyn Mezo, crossing the finish line in second place with a time of 50:42.64 in the Women's 2/3-Cross Country.
 
Ashley Davis competed for King in the Women's P 1/2-Cross Country, finishing in 17^th place with a time of 1:35:22.24. Mashaila Fordham finished in seventh place with a time of 1:00:37.78.
 
Alexa Whaley competed in the Women's section of the Dual Slalom for King, placing 19^th.
Whaley also competed in the Women's 3-Cross Country with a time of 51:37.92, finishing in second place.
