GREENVILLE, S.C. – King University women's wrestling continued its tradition of excellence as the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas announced its 2025–26 all-conference awards on Friday. The Tornado collected multiple top honors, including Wrestler of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year, highlighting another dominant season for the program.
Turnwall Repeats as Wrestler of the Year
For the second consecutive season, Karissa Turnwall was named SACC Wrestler of the Year, solidifying her place among the nation's elite. Turnwall posted a perfect 20–0 record, going undefeated in conference competition. She also enters the postseason ranked No. 3 nationally at 117 pounds by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Her back-to-back recognition marks another milestone in a standout career that continues to elevate the standard for King women's wrestling.
Julien-Newsom Named Freshman of the Year
King claimed the league's top newcomer honor for the second straight season as Ruby Julien-Newsom earned SACC Freshman of the Year. Julien-Newsom went undefeated in conference action and is currently ranked No. 10 nationally at 138 pounds, after previously reaching as high as No. 7 at 145 pounds earlier in the year.
Her immediate impact helped strengthen King's lineup and added another rising star to the Tornado roster.
Frey Earns Coach of the Year Honors
Head coach Bret Frey was selected SACC Coach of the Year after guiding King to its second straight regular-season conference title. The Tornado finished a perfect 7–0 in league duals and hold an 11–2 overall record, continuing the program's long-standing reputation as one of the premier teams in the nation.
