FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University baseball team dropped the series-opening game to Emmanuel, 13-5 Friday afternoon.
Truman Roper led the way offensively, going 3-for-4, with a home run, a double and an RBI on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions struck first, scoring four runs in the second to take an early 4-0 advantage.
- King responded in the top of the third, as Roper hit a one-out single, advancing to second when Starrs drew a walk.
- Roper came around to score on a single to right field by Levi Medford to cut the Emmanuel lead to 4-1, however were unable to do any further damage in the inning.
- Emmanuel extended the lead to 5-1 in the sixth, scoring a run on three hits to take a 5-1 lead.
- In the top of the seventh, the Tornado scored another run, as Roper hit a home run to make it 5-2. Starrs then tripled before being caught in a double play that ended the inning.
- The Lions responded with a pair of runs in the seventh before adding six more in the bottom of the eighth to take a 13-2 lead.
- In the ninth, the Tornado scored three runs, all of which came on a Borchardt three-run home run. The inning started when Jacob Eargle drew a walk, advancing to second when Ryan Theobald reached base on an error.
- The Tornado were able to get another baserunner, but were unable to keep the rally going, falling 13-5.
FOR THE FOES
- Nick Madrigal was 3-for-5, with three RBI to lead the Lions offense.
- Hayden Beal also had three hits, including a double and two runs scored.
