Tornado earn one-hit shutout in doubleheader sweep

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team remains undefeated in Conference Carolinas play with a doubleheader sweep over Lees-McRae on Tuesday afternoon. The Tornado allowed a combined 8 hits and 1 run.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • Jessica Campbell opened the bottom of the first inning with a single to the shortstop before stealing second base. Alena Demakas drew a walk. Tori Ryan hit a double to left center to drive both of her teammates in, putting King up 2-0 early before their first out.
  • Bradlie Warner doubled to left field in the bottom of the second inning and was able to score as Campbell reached on an error.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, Katie Ryan singled up the middle before Warner singled through the left side. Campbell had the Tornado's third straight hit as she also singled up the middle, allowing Ryan to score King's final run of the game.
  • Lees-McRae had just five base runners in the game, and none reached third base. The Bobcats only hit came on a one-out single to right center in the top of the seventh inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
  • Once again, King scored first as Rachel Jardim's double to right field drove in J. Campbell who had reached on a single to center field.
  • Campbell led off the third with another single to center before she was able to score on Demakas' double in the next at-bat. Demakas later scored herself to put King up 3-0.
  • Lees-McRae had their only run of the day score on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth inning.
  • Jardim hit her second double of the game to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning before Staley Vaught pinch ran for her. Vaught scored as Bunsic reached on an error for King's final run of the day.
