King falls to Tusculum in nonconference action

GREENEVILLE, S.C. – Levi Medford hit a pair of home runs Tuesday afternoon, but the King University baseball team narrowly dropped a nonconference game, 7-6 to Tusculum.

THE BASICS:

LOCATION: Pioneer Park; Greeneville, Tenn.

KING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Medford finished the game 2-for-3, with three RBI and four runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Jose Ruiz was hit by a pitch and stole second, he scored when Nathan Borchardt reached base on a fielding error by the center fielder, giving King a 1-0 lead.
  • A short time later, Jacob Eargle drew a bases loaded walk, allowing Medford to score, making it a 2-0 Tornado lead.
  • King added two more in the second, as Borchardt hit a two-out double, eventually scoring on a Medford home run to double the lead to 4-0.
  • Tusculum responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning, then added one in the third to take a 7-4 advantage.
  • In the fifth, Medford drew a walk, eventually advancing to third before Michael Starrs hit a infield single, allowing Medford to score and pulling the Tornado to within 7-5.
  • The Tornado got a two-out double from Truman Roper in the eighth, but were unable to capitalize.
  • In the ninth, Medford hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot with two outs to make the score 7-6, but the Pioneers were able to hold on for a 7-6 win.

  • Caleb Mulcahy was the lone Pioneer to have multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4, with a double.
