King falls to Belmont Abbey, 3-1

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team fell to Belmont Abbey in four sets on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • King and Belmont Abbey traded points for the first portion of the opening set. The Crusaders took the lead with a three-point run and they remained in the lead for the rest of the first set.
  • Colton Bueter had four kills in the opening set while Sean Haberthy had the only service ace of the opening frame.
  • King trailed in the opening of the second set but with kills from Haberthy and Alex Barkley King took tied the score. Justin Sawyer's kill gave King a 9-8 lead.
  • The Tornado led for most of the set before Belmont Abbey tied the game at 12 and the two teams again traded points. The Crusaders took the set with three points in the last four services.
  • Haberthy had a set-high five kills in the second set.
  • Kills from Bueter and Sawyer allowed King to take a 2-0 lead to start Set 3. Belmont Abbey quickly responded with five straight points. Barkley's kill helped King tie the score at 13 before another round of the teams trading points.
  • The score was tied at 23 before King won the set with Barkley's sixth kill of the set, avoiding a sweep.
  • The Tornado struggled in the fourth set, recording just eight kills and 16 points.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Alex Barkley finished the match with 12 kills, six of which came in the third set. He also recorded 35 receptions, 6 digs, and a solo block.
  • Colton Bueter had 10 kills and 16 receptions.
  • Javi Saldivar had 28 receptions and 12 digs from his defensive specialist position.
  • JP Ribeiro had 34 assists. Sean Haberthy had a service ace, two solo blocks, and a block assist.
 
UP NEXT
The King University men's volleyball team will be back at home on Wednesday, March 5 as they host Lincoln Memorial for a 6 p.m. match.
