King wins sixth straight as Akal scores 29 points

ROME, Ga. – The King University men's basketball team won their sixth straight game on Thursday with a 15-point win over Conference Carolinas opponent Shorter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Seth Cullen started the game with a three-point shot followed by Mikhail Pocknett hitting a driving layup.
  • Shorter responded with 8 straight before Cullen hit another from beyond the arc. Jordan Akal went on a 5-0 run by himself to retake the lead.
  • Akal would give King the lead again with 8:24 left in the first half. The Tornado would lead for the rest of the game.
  • Petar Mijatovic hit a three-pointer to give King their largest lead of the first half at 36-28 before the media timeout.
  • The Tornado hit the first eight points of the second half with Pocknett (5) and Cullen (3) contribute to King expanding their lead to double-digits.
  • Bradley Owens would also hit a three-point shot to give King a 74-51 lead, their largest of the night.
  • Jordan Akal scored 17 in the second half, 12 of them coming from beyond the arc.

  • Jordan Akal scored 29 points on the night, hitting 5-10 from beyond the arc and 4-4 from the free throw line.
  • Mikhail Pocknett and Xavier Betancourt each contributed 19 points, both of them earning most of their points inside the arc. Pocknett had a game-high 3 steals and team-high 5 assists.
  • Seth Cullen had 14 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, seven of which came on the defensive end of the court.
  • The Tornado outscored the Hawks on points from turnovers 17-6, inside the paint 42-34, and slightly on second chance points 12-10 as they led for over 33 minutes of the game.
