Barkley's big afternoon leads King to sweep of Talladega

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team earned their second straight win following their spring break layoff. The Tornado used 16 kills from Alex Barkley to sweep Talladega College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • A Kolten Soon kill followed by a Soon and Bryce Pickett block got the Tornado off to a hot start.
  • King later used a 5-0 run highlighted by a block from Pickett and Sean Haberthy to take an 8-2 lead.
  • The Tornado gradually extended their lead and Soon gave King the first set 25-15 with hits second kill of the set.
Second Set
  • Talladega took a 5-2 lead with a 3-0 spurt before the Tornado chipped away.
  • King evened the score at seven on one of Barkley's eight kills in the set before the teams started to trade points.
  • Consecutive kills from Barkley and Soon gave King a 19-17 lead before two Barkley terminations pushed the Tornado lead to 23-20 as King took the set 25-22.
Third Set
  • Pickett posted a kill to start a 4-0 Tornado run that gave King an early 5-1 lead.
  • King gradually extended their lead and took a 22-11 lead following two Christian Harris aces on a 4-0 Tornado spurt.
  • Soon then gave King the set 25-15 and the match 3-0 with his eighth kill of the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Barkley led King with 16 kills, hitting .636 with only two errors on 22 attempts.
  • Soon followed with eight kills on 11 attempts and one error for a .636 attack percentage.
  • Andrew Haber handed out 37 assists while Harris led the Tornado with five digs.
FOR THE FOES
  • Denzel Pepper and Mallik Foreman led Talladega with six kills apiece.
  • Elijah Foster handed out 22 assists and Andrea Tognazzo led the Tornadoes with seven digs.
UP NEXT
  • King remains home to take on regional rival Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
  • Talladega travels to Emmanuel University on Tuesday night.
