Alayna Smith and
Jaelyn West both scored in double figures Tuesday night, but the King University women's basketball team fell to Converse University in their Conference Carolinas matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- Converse went ahead 8-2 early, with a pair of free throws from Smith accounting for King's points.
- Brianna Dunbar and Morgan Bone then both hit a pair from the free throw line, closing the Tornado to within 8-6 with just over 2:30 left to play.
- The Valkyries would score the next eight points before Le'Aije Ellington hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left to make the score 16-8.
Second Period
- The Tornado continued to pull closer, as Smith hit two straight buckets, including an offensive put back with 8:42 left on the clock that made the score 16-12.
- After the Converse lead reached 14, Alexa Gramann made a jumper, after which Jakae Jones connected with a pair of free throws.
- Both teams scored twice in the closing minutes, with Dunbar hitting two from the free throw line to make the score 28-18 entering halftime.
Third Period
- It was a free throw shooting contest early, with Converse going 3-of-4 from the line in the first four minutes, while King hit all four they took, keeping the deficit at 10 points.
- Jones and West both hit threes during the middle portion of the quarter, with West scoring six points in the final five minutes to keep King within 46-43.
Fourth Period
- The Valkyries took a 10 point lead in the first two minutes before West hit a pair of jumpers, bringing the Tornado back to within six points, 54-48.
- Raven Addison hit a jumper with 4:18 left, and would go on to score seven of the final nine points for King, including a three with 3:44 left that made the score 61-53 in favor of Converse.
- The Valkyries would go 7-for-10 from the line in the final minutes to hold on for a 72-57 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Smith finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling 12 rebounds, with West finishing at 11 points and four rebounds.
- Jones had a team-high five rebounds, with Dunbar handing out four assists on the night.
FOR THE FOES
- Four Valkyries scored in double figures, with Elisa Sole Sanchez and Sydney Wilson both scoring 18 points, with Sole Sanchez adding 11 rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting from the line.
- Alisa Davenport had 11 points, while Sierra Jones had 10 and three rebounds in 29 minutes played.

- The Tornado will host Young Harris College Saturday afternoon, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
- Converse will play at Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday.
