Tornado finish season at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The King University women's cross country team concluded the 2024 season at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships with a team finish of 17th place.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore Ermay Vazquez Adame led the team finishing at 23:40 for a 58th individual finish out of the 179 athlete field. Next to come in for the Tornado were junior, Emily Ward, and senior, Morgan Whitley, who finished in 24:23 and 25:07, respectively.

At the 2k point of the race, the women were in 20th place with a team score of 546 points. By the end of the 6k, the women moved up to 17th place with a team score of 459, meaning in the final 2.5 miles of the race, the women surpassed 87 other competitors. Vazquez Adame and junior, Mandy Lowery, moved up 30 and 22 positions, respectively.
 
Post race, Coach Jack Brunecz said "The men and women executed our strategic gameplan very well today. The women ran this exact course two weeks ago at our Conference Championship so the main goal was just to be a little better today at each mile marker than we were two weeks ago. Even with the race today being about 10 degrees warmer, 4 of the 7 women still improved upon their 6k times from the Conference Championship. Overall, it was a great season filled with a lot of progression and the way that we progressed through both of these regional championship races was symbolic of how the season went for us. I'm already excited for next season, but first we will continue our trend of progression through the upcoming indoor track & field season."
