BRISTOL, Tenn. – Two King University student-athletes garnered Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year Presented by Hudl accolades when the league announced their spring recipients this week.
Warren Davis took home the award in men's volleyball while
Alexis Wynn earned the distinction in acrobatics & tumbling.
Davis becomes the first Tornado to be selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men's volleyball. He put together one of the best seasons in program history as he was selected first team All-Conference Carolinas and garnered honorable mention All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). He was named the Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship Most Valuable Player and was a four-time Conference Carolinas Player of the Week selection. He set the school record with 469 kills, becoming the first Tornado to eclipse the 400-kill plateau in a season.
Wynn becomes the second straight Tornado to garner the honor in acrobatics & tumbling, joining
Claire Guittard as the only two in program history to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinction. This season Wynn earned first team All-Conference Carolinas honors after competing 11 heats for the Tornado. She also helped the Tornado tumbling trio pass finish third at the Conference Carolinas Event Finals.
The Scholar-Athlete awards Presented by Hudl are awarded annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs and Awards Committee.
To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.
