Dale Bruce of the King University swimming team has been selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year Presented by Hudl. Bruce wins the award for men's swimming following a pair of All-Conference Carolinas swims.
Bruce helped the Tornado 800 freestyle relay team win a Conference Carolinas championship and the 400 yard freestyle relay team finish third at the conference championships. The 800 yard freestyle relay team set the school record with a time of 6:49.03. The 400 yard freestyle relay also set a school record, touching the wall in 3:06.04.
Individually, Bruce finished fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke and helped the 400 yard medley relay to a fourth-place finish. He also posted a pair of fifth place finishes. Bruce, a senior from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe is a senior and will graduate with a degree in Mathematics.
Bruce becomes the first Tornado men's swimmer to be selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Scholar-Athlete awards Presented by Hudl are awarded annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs and Awards Committee.
To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.
