BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Jessica Campbell and
Madison Walter of the King University softball team earned weekly honors Tuesday, with Walter being named Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week, while Walter and Campbell were both named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week.
Campbell, a junior from Graysville, Tenn., batted .471 last week, with two doubles, three triples and three RBI, while also drawing four walks. She had two multi-hit games, including a 2-for-3 performance against Lees-McRae, with a double, a triple and two runs scored. Against Mount Olive, she went 2-for-3 as well, with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. She also brings an active seven-game hitting streak into this week's Conference Carolinas tournament.
Walter, a senior from Lebanon, Pa., made three starts last week, tossing three complete games. She was 3-0, with an ERA of 0.67, allowing just two earned runs with 12 strikeouts. She started the week allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts against Lees-McRae before throwing consecutive complete games on the weekend. In the regular season finale against UNC Pembroke, she scattered three hits with seven strikeouts.
The Tornado are the top seed in this week's Conference Carolinas softball tournament, and are scheduled to open the double elimination tournament Thursday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Thursday morning's play-in game between no. 8 Belmont Abbey College and no. 9 UNC Pembroke.
