BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team came back twice on Sunday afternoon against Chowan University. However, the Tornado couldn't gain a lead as the Hawks earned the 82-75 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- Michelle Gallegos buried a triple in the early going before Chowan scored seven straight points as their press slowed down the Tornado offense.
- A Jaden Potts triple pulled King within one, but Chowan again scored seven straight points to take a 21-15 lead after the first period.
Second Period
- Including the final point of the first quarter, Chowan went on an 8-0 run to take a 28-15 lead early in the second quarter.
- King later trailed 30-18 before an Ashley Allen layup got the Tornado offense on track.
- Potts came up with steals on back-to-back possessions, on the first she knocked down a jump shot and on the next she found Alexa Gramann for a layup.
- Allen added a layup before a pair of Jaelyn West free throws and West fastbreak jump shot evened the tally 30-30 following the 12-0 run.
- A pair of Tori Smiley free throws and a Rikkelle Miller jump shot gave King a 34-32 lead with three minutes remaining in the half.
- However, the Hawks scored six straight points and 11 of the final 16 to take a 43-37 lead into halftime.
Third Period
- King tried to work their way back again in the third quarter, scoring six straight points as a pair of Allen free throws pulled the Tornado within 46-43.
- However, the Hawks extended the lead back to eight points before the Tornado went on a another run down the stretch.
- Jada Campbell started a run with a layup as Allen followed with a jump shot.
- A pair of Le'Aije Ellington free throws and a Campbell basket caped the 8-0 run and evened the score at 58.
- The Hawks made a pair of free throws in the final seconds to take a 60-58 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Period
- Following an Ellington layup to start the fourth quarter, Chowan went on a 10-0 run to take a 70-60 lead before a pair of Gramann free throws.
- King tried to make a comeback down the stretch, but Chowan held off the rally to take the contest 82-75.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Allen led the Tornado with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.
- Gramann followed with 15 points and 14 rebounds for the double-double.
- Potts added 13 points and six steals.
- West chipped in with 10 rebounds to go along with five points.
FOR THE FOES
- Anaiah Patterson led four Chowan scorers in double figures with 19 points.
- Destiny Robinson added 13 points and eight rebounds wihle Tyaysia Sharpe scored 12 points.
- Meara Carter chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 14 rebounds for Gramann set a career-high, topping her previous best of 11 set last season against Lees-McRae College.
- Allen matched a career-high with 16 points.
- West set a career-high with 10 rebounds, topping her previous high of eight.
