Top-ranked King dominates Tornado Open

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The top-ranked King University wrestling team hosted the Tornado Open on Sunday and posted 14 placers at the event. The Tornado had nine first place finishers, including a split title at 101 pounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Second-ranked Jessica Corredor and fourth-ranked Avery Kibelbek shared the title at 101 pounds as each went 2-0 in their pool play bracket.
  • Corredor pinned Emmanuel College's Haley Zinninger in 1:52 while Kibelbek earned an 11-0 technical fall. Each had a tight match with Schreiner University's Odelia Lopez with Corredor winning 3-1 and Kibelbek taking a 10-7 victory.
  • At 109 pounds, third-ranked Dianna Holmes edged top-ranked Sage Mortimer 10-8 with a takedown in the waning seconds to take the title.
  • It was another all-King final at 116 pounds with top-ranked Samara Chavez sneaking past third-ranked Danielle Garcia 3-0 in the championship bout.
  • Fourth-ranked Vayle-Rae Baker won the 123-pound bracket with eighth-ranked Melanie Mendoza taking third.
  • Baker topped Virginia Foard of Wyoming Seminary 6-0 in the final while Mendoza pinned Annika Lindberg of Emmanuel College in 1:23 to finish third.
  • At 130 pounds, third-ranked Montana DeLawder finished runner-up, falling to Xochitl Mota-Pettis in the championship. Her tournament started with pin and technical fall to reach the final.
  • Sixth-ranked Viktorya Torres finished first at 136 pounds, taking a 10-0 technical fall win over Adrian College's Shawna Oesterling in the championship bout.
  • The third all-King final of the day came at 143 pounds where Ashlynn Ortega edged top-ranked Ana Luciano 4-1 in the round robin bracket.
  • Luciano advanced with a pin and technical fall while Ortega earned to technical fall wins on the day.
  • Fifth-ranked Tiffani Baublitz earned three pins on the day to finish first at 155 pounds. She pinned Adrian's Taylor Cutler in 53 seconds in the final.
  • At 170 pounds, second-ranked Chey Bowman took a technical fall and two pins to finish first. She pinned Nyla Burgess of Adrian in 35 seconds in the championship match.
