CHICAGO, Ill. – The King University men's volleyball team continued their season-opening road trip Thursday afternoon, falling to #12 Loyola Chicago 3-0 in a nonconference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- After the Ramblers scored the first two points of the set, Warren Davis got the Tornado on the board with a kill.
- Loyola Chicago would eventually take a 10-5 lead, where the Tornado started to claw their way back, scoring three consecutive points, two of which came on back-to-back service aces by Jack Sarnowski.
- The Tornado would keep the score close at 12-9 when the Ramblers scored back-to-back points, extending the lead to 14-9.
- After Loyola Chicago reached a 21-14 lead, the Tornado scored three straight points, with Sarnowski picking up another service ace to make it 21-17.
- The Ramblers would end up getting to set point, up 24-19 before a service error gave King a point. Loyola Chicago would take the set, 25-20.
Second Set
- Neither team was able to establish a large lead in the second set, with the largest lead early being a 9-7 lead for Loyola Chicago.
- After Davis picked up a kill to tie the set at 11, he recorded a service ace to hand King a 12-11 advantage.
- King would eventually take a 15-13 lead, but coming out of a timeout, the Ramblers scored two consecutive points to tie the set once again, this time at 15 before taking a 16-15 lead.
- That started what would turn into a 7-2 Ramblers run that saw them go ahead 21-17.
- The Tornado continued to keep things close, getting to within 23-20 before the Ramblers took the final two points to win the set 25-20.
Third Set
- The Tornado took an early 5-3 lead thanks to Loyola Chicago attack errors, but the Ramblers tied the set at 5 before taking a 6-5 lead.
- After King took a 9-8 lead the Ramblers re-took the lead, 10-9, kickstarting a 6-1 run that saw them take a 15-10 lead heading into a timeout.
- The Ramblers would extend the lead to 22-14 before Davis recorded another kill to get King to within 22-15.
- Loyola Chicago had two match points that King was able to fight off, with Aiden Swatzell picking up a kill and a block assist along with AJ Drooker. The Ramblers would finish the set, winning it 25-18.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Davis continued to establish himself as the leader of the Tornado attack, as he led King with nine kills, along with a pair of digs and three blocks.
- Aaron Milstead had four total blocks for the Tornado, along with three kills while Drooker finished the match with five kills and three blocks.
FOR THE FOES
- Colton Brooks and Parker Van Buren both had nine kills for the Ramblers, with Brooks adding three digs and three total blocks on the match.
- Van Buren also had five service aces.
- Jack Yentz had four digs, along with seven kills.
UP NEXT
- King will continue their season-opening road trip tomorrow night, when they take on their third ranked opponent in as many days, as they take on #3 Long Beach State. First serve is scheduled for 10:30 p.m.
- The Ramblers will host UC San Diego tomorrow night.
