King sweeps series opening doubleheader from Mount Olive


BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University baseball team won a pair of games against perennial Conference Carolinas power, University of Mount Olive. The offense powered the Tornado to a 10-5 game one win before Drew Moore tossed a complete game to defeat the Trojans 6-2 in game two.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • A pair of hit by pitches and a single from Davis Hall loaded the bases for the Tornado in the first inning.
  • Roper then worked a walk to give King the 1-0 lead.
  • Both teams left a pair of runners on in the second inning before Jack Casbarro led off the top of the third with a home run, evening the score at one.
  • A leadoff hit by pitch, followed by a wild pitch and single gave Mount Olive a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning.
  • Following back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the fifth, a Backus single scored one to even the score.
  • Renwick followed with a sacrifice fly before a Hilliard single gave King a 4-2 lead.
  • King added three more runs on consecutive hit by pitches and an infield single to hold a 7-2 advantage.
  • Casbarro came up with a two-run single for the Trojans in the sixth, cutting the Mount Olive deficit to 7-4.
  • Mount Olive pulled within 7-5 on another Casbarro run-scoring single in the eighth.
  • However, the King offense responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
  • Roper drove in two with a single before scoring in a Renwick double that gave King a 10-5 advantage.
  • The Trojans loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but Nic Blankenship got the final out to earn his fourth save of the season and give King the 10-5 win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • A leadoff double followed by two groundouts gave Mount Olive a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.
  • Hunter Stevens was tough on the mound for the Trojans early as he struck out four in the first two innings.
  • However, he was removed due to injury in the second inning as the Tornado loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a single.
  • King evened the score when Jack Flanagan scored on a wild pitch and took a 2-1 lead on a Zachary Thomas bases loaded walk.
  • Mount Olive started the fourth inning with back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt before a sacrifice fly evened the score at two.
  • King regained the lead in the fifth inning on a Scott single that scored Thomas.
  • In the sixth inning, the Tornado added three runs to take a 6-2 lead. The first two runs scored on wild pitches and the third scored on a passed ball.
  • Moore then retired the side in order in the seventh inning to give King the 6-2 victory.
