Diego Marcano had a big afternoon, leading the King University men's volleyball team to a sweep at Barton College on Saturday. Marcano hit .500 in the match while leading the Tornado in kills in the Conference Carolinas victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- A block from Marcano and Kellan Kennedy ignited the Tornado offense early in the match.
- Sean Haberthy followed with a kill and a Marcano kill gave King a 6-4 lead to cap the 4-0 Tornado spurt.
- King extended their lead with a 8-2 run, started with three straight points on a kill from Suetonius Harris, block from Marcano and Kennedy and an ace from Jack Sarnowski.
- Another Marcano kill gave King a commanding 17-11 advantage.
- King later scored the final four points of the set with a Marcano kill giving King the 25-17 victory.
Second Set
- Another 4-0 run gave King an early 7-2 advantage. Marcano posted two kills while Kennedy added a service error and Jackson Carroll had a kill on the run.
- Haberthy ended a 6-1 King run with a kill that put the Tornado ahead 14-5.
- Barton tried to make a run, scoring four straight points, but a Marcano kill ended the spurt as King led 15-9.
- From there the teams traded points for the remainder of the set as King went on to win the set 25-18.
Third Set
- As was the story in the first two sets, and early 4-0 Tornado spurt gave King the early advantage.
- In all, King went on a 6-1 run to take a 9-4 lead.
- Barton came back and pulled within two on numerous occasions, but King gradually pulled away down the stretch.
- The Tornado used a 5-2 spurt to take a 20-15 lead following a Kennedy block.
- The Bulldogs scored four of the next five points, cutting the King lead back to 21-19, but Marcano answered with a kill.
- The Tornado the scored three of the final four points as a Harris kill gave King the 25-21 victory to take the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Marcano led King with 12 kills while hitting .500 as he made just three errors on 18 attempts.
- Harris followed with eight kills and five digs.
- Sarnowski handed out 32 assists and added five digs.
- Noah Melendez led the back row with seven digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Brand Johnston led Barton with nine kills.
- Moses Kresch handed out 16 assists.
UP NEXT
- King returns home to take on Belmont Abbey College on Wednesday. First serve from the Student Center Complex is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
- Barton hosts Queens University on Wednesday night.
