BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team dropped a Conference Carolinas matchup to Francis Marion University Saturday afternoon, 3-0.
Hailee Blankenship and
Riley Nelson led the Tornado attack, both recording seven kills, with Nelson adding three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Julie Danner started the match with a service ace, giving the Tornado an early 1-0 lead.
- King would eventually pull ahead 10-5, after scoring five consecutive points thanks in part to two kills from Blankenship and an ace from Hannah Rogers.
- The Patriots would battle back to tie the set at 13 before pulling ahead.
- After FMU went up 19-15, the Tornado came storming back, using three attack errors to get to within 19-18.
- King would eventually tie the score at 20, but FMU would pull away to win the set 25-21.
Second Set
- The Tornado scored the first two points of the set, with Zephanie Snyder picking up a kill to make the score 2-0.
- King stretched the lead to 10-7 before FMU scored seven straight points to go ahead, 14-10.
- After FMU extended the lead to 22-14, Nelson picked up back-to-back kills to kickstart a King run that trimmed the lead to 22-17.
- The Patriots would end the set by winning three of the final four points to take the set 25-18.
Third Set
- After the Patriots took an early 4-2 lead, the Tornado scored three straight points to go ahead 5-4.
- The Tornado would stretch the lead to 8-5 before FMU scored four straight to take a 9-8 lead.
- The score was tied at 15 when Snyder picked up another kill to give King a lead that they would eventually stretch to 21-17.
- King would go up 24-21, but the Patriots came back and scored the final five points to win the set 26-24, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rogers finished with three service aces. Blankenship, Paula La Mendola and Danner also had aces.
- In addition, Rogers led the Tornado back row with eight digs, while Claire Wilson had seven.
- Katie Harless handed out 24 set assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Katie Kemp led the way for FMY with 15 kills, while Lexi Albright had 11 kills and 15 digs.
- Caroline Lucas had a pair of block assists.
